In 2019, before the democratic primary, the frontrunner of the Democratic Party is Joe Biden. A recent poll, conducted by RCP (Real Clear Politics), concluded with the following results. Former Vice President Joe Biden is in first place with 32.2% of the registered democratic voters. Sen. Bernie Sanders is in second place with 16.8% of the registered democratic voters. Sen. Elizabeth Warren is in third place with 10.8% of the registered democratic voters. Mayor Pete Buttigieg has 7.2% of the registered democratic voters which places him in fourth place. Senator Kamala Harris is in fifth place with 6.6 % of registered democratic voters. The rest of the democratic presidential candidates barely registers on the poll conducted by RCP.

With this poll, one can step back and conclude that the Democratic party is divided. However, when it comes to the African Americans, the African Americans are united under the Democratic Party frontrunner because the Democratic party offers the better solutions to hot pocketbook issues of the African Americans. A poll conducted by Politico concluded that the hot issues of African Americans are affordable healthcare, college affordability, and creating more jobs for African Americans. The democrats offer the best solutions to these problems according to the African Americans which makes their commitment to the democratic party stronger. Therefore, The African Americans are united under the Democratic Party for several reasons. First, the democratic party is united to further the African American’s equality in the United States. Second, Democrats and African Americans have a mutual goal to protect the African Americans from discrimination. Third, African Americans can give the Democratic Party more votes if African Americans rally behind the frontrunner of the Democratic Party.

First, the Democratic Party is united to further the African American’s racial equality in the United States. The Democratic Party platform stated, “Democrats will promote racial Justice through fair, just and equitable governing of all public-serving institutions and in the formation of public policy.” Democrats are pushing for “a societal transformation to make it clear that black lives matter and there is no place for racism in our country” (“African Americans,” 2019, para 1). For this reason, the African American community is standing with the Democratic Party in the battle for equality and the war to get President Trump out of office in the 2020 presidential election. Therefore, it is evident that the African American’s commitment is strong with the Democratic Party because the Democratic Party is united to further the African American’s racial equality in the United States.

Second, if the Democrats and African Americans are united under the same common interest, it will lead the African Americans to commit to the Democratic Party. The African Americans and the Democratic Party are united under the same common interest of combating racial inequality because the Democratic Party are working tirelessly to fight back “against discrimination and advancing the issues that matter most to African Americans, from civil rights to economic opportunity” (“African Americans,” 2019, para 2). Racial inequality suffocates the atmosphere of freedom. Without working to fight against racial equality, the African Americans will not be united under same common interest. If they are not sharing a common interests, The African Americans’ commitment to the Democratic Party will shatter and will lead to disunity among the Democratic Party. However, if the Democrats work to fight against racial inequality with the African Americans, this union between the Democratic Party and the African Americans will lead to more votes to ensure that Joe Biden can win the 2020 presidential bid. The race to combat racial equality has led to more voters to identify as Democrat because the Democrats’ quest is to ensure equal rights for every citizen in the United States of America regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, or disability. The African Americans commitment helps keep the Democratic Party united under one common goal. Therefore, since the Democrats and the African Americans are united under the same common interest of combating racial inequality, the African Americans are committed to Democratic Party.

Third, African Americans can give the Democratic Party more votes if the African Americans rally behind the frontrunner of the Democratic Party which is Joe Biden. A new survey indicates the African Americans are rallying behind the frontrunner of the Democratic party and are enthusiastic about the frontrunner, who is running for president. Politico reports that “seventy-six percent of African Americans are enthusiastic about Biden” (Strauss, 2019, para. 2). The Democrats want the African Americans to support the frontrunner by “focusing on the pocketbook issues of paramount importance to African American voters.” Examples of pocketbook issues are affordable health care, college affordability, and creating more jobs. Therefore, if the African Americans rally behind the frontrunner of the democratic party, the African Americans can renew the commitment to the Democratic Party by voting for the frontrunner which is Joe Biden.

For these reasons, the African Americans will still be committed to the Democratic Party under Joe Biden because African Americans want equal rights and want their issues represented in Congress. African Americans tend to rally behind the Democratic Party because the Democratic party supports equal rights, equal pay, and is against racial discriminations. Therefore, African Americans will still be committed to the Democratic Party because they represent the issue paramount to the African American voters.
