Positional Statement Series Part 2: Concerning the Lord's Supper

To be clear, The Lord’s supper symbolizes the last supper of Jesus Christ. The Lord’s Supper shows that the bread is the symbolically, not literally, is the body of Christ. The Cup is symbolically, not literally, the blood of Jesus Christ. The Lord’s supper was to help us reflect on our lives and confess our sins before Christ. It is basically showing us to live on the 1 John 1:9 model. 1 John 1:9 states, “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive your sins and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness.” Also, it is commanded in the Bible to do this office of the Lord’s Supper. The Two ordinances that God commands us to do is Baptism and the Lord’s Supper or commonly referred to as Communion. It is documented in 1 Corinthians 11:23-32. 1 Corinthians 11:23-32 (ESV) states,

“For I received from the Lord which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died. But if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged. But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.”

With this big passage, The Lord’s supper is remembrance of the Lord’s death. Jesus bore our sins on the cross so that we can be freed from the burden of our sins. The Lord’s supper is an important ordinance that should be practiced among the body of believers. This is my Positional statement on the Lord’s supper. And this ordinance should be conducted by believers who already accepted the free gift of Salvation.
